Abaca fibre is extracted from the stalk of the abaca plant, a variety of the banana plant, and harvested 13-14 months after planting and then at 3-4 month intervals as longer than this yields inferior fibre quality. Proper drying techniques contribute to quality and cleanliness and helps prolong shelf life. Used for placemats, table linen, cushions, scarves, bags and picture frames among others.
