Raffia comes from the buri palm (Corypha Elata Roxb), which produces three kinds of fibre, the buri, raffia and buntal. The fibres are extracted by comb after removing the midrib from the leaf (buntal) and separating the upper and lower epidermis. They are washed and sun-dried, ready for weaving into clothes and handicraft products such as placemats, cushions, bags and picture frames among others.
